An Evening with Molly McCloskey
Tuesday, November 13th | 7:30 pm
“Every once in a while, a writer’s voice hits such a clear note, the resulting book has the kind of sweetness that makes you hold it in your hands a moment before finding a place for it on your shelves. Circles Around the Sun is this kind of book: it’s a keeper.” - Anne Enright, THE GUARDIAN
Named Memoir of the Year by The Sunday Times (UK), Molly McCloskey’s Circles Around the Sun tells the story of her brother, Mike McCloskey—14 years her elder—who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at twenty-three. The youngest of six siblings, Molly could not recall who her brother was before his illness struck. Through reading an astonishing archive of preserved family letters, Molly pieces together a picture of his life and along the way explores her own demons, and how a seemingly perfect family slowly can fall apart and, in the end, regroup. Join us for an evening with Molly McCloskey.

Molly McCloskey was born in Philadelphia and grew up in North Carolina and Oregon. In 1989, she moved to Ireland, and currently resides in Dublin. She is the author of two short story collections, Solomon’s Seal and The Beautiful Changes, and a novel, Protection. As a journalist, essayist and reviewer, she is a regular contributor to The Irish Times, and her work has appeared in The Guardian, The Irish Times, ELLE, and The Dublin Review.
