Darrah Carr Dance
Celtic Jazz Tryst Family Shows
with Tara O’Grady & her Black Velvet Band
Featuring guest choreographer Seán Curran
November 19-20 | 11 AM
Running time: 60 minutes
On the heels of last season's electric collaboration, Bessie award-nominated Darrah Carr Dance reunites with “Irish-American Jazz Powerhouse" (Irish Central) Tara O'Grady and her Black Velvet Band for Celtic Jazz Tryst—a delightful fusion of swing dance, tap rhythms, and Irish dance steps set to OGrady’s jaunty live music.
Our specially-priced Family Shows let kids participate! There will be a sing-along with Tara and the band, a demonstration of spoon playing, and a Q & A with the cast of champion dancers including Trent Kowalik, the original star of Broadway’s Billy Elliot, and Timothy Kochka, two-time winner of the Word Irish Dancing Championships and seven-year member of Riverdance. Best of all, children in the audience will be invited onstage to learn the first step of a jig!
The running time is just an hour.
“Darrah Carr Dance performs its Eire-inflected swing to live music by jazz vocalist Tara O'Grady and her Black Velvet Band; choreographer Seán Curran also contributes his own exuberant fusion work On the Six.” – Time Out New York
“Putting a new wrinkle into New York modern dance with a program of pieces that add Irish step dancing to the modern mix.” – The New York Times
“[Tara O’Grady] brings Bessie Smith into this century with lickety-split swing.” –New York Music Daily
